Kickoff The Gift of Literacy Campaign!

Join Books Are Wings on Thursday, November 19th at 6p.m. to kick off this year’s Gift of Literacy Campaign. The event will be hosted on Zoom, kicking off our 7th annual Gift Of Literacy campaign, working to get over 10,000 books out to learners by the end of 2020. This will be the first time since the pandemic hit that we will be gathering Books Are Wings volunteers, book donors, and supporters. The campaign offers the opportunity for us to come together and help to ensure that children around Rhode Island have access to the books and literacy tools they need to succeed. This event marks the start of a campaign that underscores our commitment to community empowerment through building the libraries of local families.

This campaign will provide funding for Books Are Wings’ core mission of putting free books in the hands of children. Every child in Rhode Island deserves access to books in their home and to be excited about books and reading. Support moments like this: While this annual campaign runs from November 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020 your donations will help give the gift of literacy by supporting Books Are Wings all year long!

Proceeds from the campaign directly support Books Are Wings and its mission to put free books into the hands of children. This critical mission is driven by efforts such as the Book Bag Project, a new initiative to support families during these unprecedented times.

To support distance learning efforts, Books Are Wings has created the Book Bag Project. With schools and community gathering places adapting policies to protect us from COVID, it can be hard to get access to books. During this time, Book Are Wings is still working hard to support families with books and remote learning resources. Executive Director Jocelynn White conceived of the Book Bags as a way to stay connected with students and their families while the organization’s regular programming is suspended.

Books Are Wings works with students around the state of Rhode Island, with a focus on communities where children often do not have their own books at home. BAW aims to close the literacy gap by providing students free age appropriate books that they select themselves. Our Book Bag Project provides sealed, age appropriate books and activities in special bags to distribute at schools and community centers.

Your involvement in this campaign brings books directly into communities!

Register now! Tickets purchased before November 16th will receive a special gift!
